Notes: For the usxuk  Summer Camp challenge (Day 13 prompt - Sewing)

Arthur Kirkland hummed softly to the music playing on his stereo as he worked on his latest project. It had something he had been working on for quite some time, but only because he only did a little bit of it once in a while. Gardening occupied half of his spring and all of his summer. Autumn was spent cleaning up the yard from the leaves that had fallen from the trees and collecting firewood for the winter. Intermixed with all of his household chores were meetings - lots and lots of them with a variety of different nations. At least he hadn't dealt with fighting for a while, and he was thankful for that.

An arrangement of 'Right Here Waiting' played by an alto saxophone, accompanied by piano, drum set, synthesizer, acoustic guitar, and soprano sax, was the next song that started playing. Arthur leaned back in his leather armchair, sighing contentedly as he thought fondly of his lover, Alfred. He always had to wait on him for many different situations - he was typically late to world meetings, he often had business that kept him for visiting Arthur on time, and he took forever getting ready in the morning. However, as much as he griped about his punctuality, he more than made up for it with his loving care and undying support for Arthur.

He looked at the handsome grandfather clock in the corner and saw that it was almost eleven at night. Looking down at his project, he saw that he only had a little bit to go before it was finished, so he started knitting a little bit more urgently, smiling to the gentle clinking of the needles with the background music. When the clock struck on the hour, Arthur finished and held it up to the light to take a look, satisfied with his completed project and he set it down on the table next to him.

Ten minutes later, he heard the sound of a key being inserted in his door and jiggling around before it cracked open. He smiled to himself as he heard the sounds of Alfred taking his shoes off quickly.

"It is freaking FREEZING outside!" he complained loudly and Arthur heard hard patting on something heavy, which probably meant Alfred was trying to get the snow off of his clothes. He would have a puddle of water on the wood paneled floor to clean later.

"Of course. Winters here can be very bitter," Arthur said simply, still facing away from Alfred in his armchair, hands folded in his lap. "Anyway, you're late."

"When am I not?" Alfred said, hurrying over to the fireplace where the fire was crackling invitingly. He held up his hands to it, letting the warmth seep into his fingers in a comforting way. "So, what do you want to do Arthur? Movie? Food? Games?"

"Hmmm… how about a walk? Outside?"

"You must be joking!" Alfred said incredulously, turning to face him from his spot in front of the fire. His face was tinged pink from the cold and he was shivering slightly.

"No, I'm not," Arthur answered as he stood up and went to put his arms around Alfred. "I've been wanting to go for a walk in the snow for a while and it just so happened that it's really cold."

"Not really cold, absolutely ridiculously cold."

"Let me warm you up first," Arthur said softly as he kissed him gently on the lips. Alfred smiled back and indulged him in some loving kisses, never once letting go of him. After a few minutes, Arthur pressed his lips to his forehead before slowly separating for him.

"Better?"

"Much."

"Shall we go then?"

"Only if you promise to warm me back up," Alfred said and Arthur nodded as he went to get his long coat. "And in a really good way too."

"Is that all you have?" he asked as Alfred reached for his own long coat. Arthur was busy with putting on his green with thin silver stripes scarf, tying it neatly, snug against his neck.

"Uh yeah. Left my gloves at home," Alfred said regretfully. "And I don't have anything else."

Arthur didn't say anything as he went over to the table and picked up his creation. Alfred's eyes watched his movements in pleasant surprise as he looped it over his neck and tied it carefully.

"It's a gift… for you," Arthur said somewhat lamely. "I know you said last winter that you really liked mine so I made you one too. It's nothing fancy - just you know... now my scarf has a complimentary pair."

"This? For me?" Alfred asked, picking up the longer end in his hand and feeling the material.

"Do you… not like it?"

"Arthur, of course I like it! You made it for me!" he expressed happily as he released the material and pulled him into a hug. "And it's blue like my eyes. And the stripes are the color of my hair. You like symbolism, don't you?"

"As if it wasn't completely obvious in my country's literature. Unlike your nation where everything is pretty much explicitly stated. No subtlety I tell you."

Alfred laughed as he opened the door and they both hurried out to keep the cold from getting in the house. He offered one arm to Arthur, and he obliged him, hooking his arm around so they could walk while keeping their hands in their pockets.

It was indeed one of the coldest days of the winter, but not even that would have deterred Arthur from going on the walk he had been looking forward to for the last month or so. The snow was falling thickly on them, but at least there was no icy breeze. They made their way into town, looking at all of the lights that lit the houses in a multitude of festive colors. In some of the houses that they passed, they could see families sharing cups of cocoa together, chasing the kids around the living room, or couples looking out at the night sky from their window.

"How's the scarf?" Arthur murmured as he looked up at Arthur.

"Perfect. It's so warm and comfortable," Alfred answered sincerely. "It is so thoughtful."

"You're welcome Alfred," Arthur said as Alfred leaned in and stole a kiss from him. "You're always doing thoughtful things for me, so I wanted to try."

"You succeeded then," Alfred said, looking around at their place on the crossroads. The road signs were partially obscured by frost. "Where to?"

"To the Thames," Arthur said as he started to lead the way. "And then we can go home before we freeze to our deaths."

They walked in silence until they reached the river, staring in awe at the blend of building lights with holiday lights from their view. The heavy snow that was falling against the backdrop of the night sky was breathtaking and the icicles that had formed on various structures glittered from everything that was shining on them. Arthur felt Alfred's arm unhook from his and he turned to him in confused alarm. His unasked question was immediately answered when he felt his arm wrap around his body and pull him close, chin resting on top of his head.

"This is beautiful," he commented as they took it all in. "Look! There are some snowmen and snow angels over there! We should make some when it's less cold."

"We're not kids," Arthur mentioned and Alfred squeezed him tighter playfully.

"No, but you don't have to be a grumpy old bugger either. Loosen up," Alfred urged on brightly. "You'll stay younger longer if you laugh a little."

"… If you insist…" Arthur grumbled as he reached up to his scarf and adjusted it slightly. "But only at the house. None of this public business."

"It's a promise then," Alfred said as he reached his other arm around him and pulled him into a real hug. "Remember how beautiful I sad this was? The lights, the water, the snow?"

"Mmmhmm…"

"You far outshine them," he said, moving in for a deep kiss which made Arthur felt like his heart had caught on fire. He instinctively pressed his body against his, locking lips again, wanting more of his touch.

"Time to go home?"

"Yes, it is."

"… You look adorable in that scarf."

"Thanks love," Alfred said as they journey back, arm in arm, smiling brightly. "So now, whenever it's cold, I'll know I'll always have a part of you with me keeping me warm. And I won't forget it either since it's important to me."

"You're such a romantic sap," Arthur said as he reached down and through a hastily-made snowball at him. He immediately took off running since he knew that Alfred was going to chase him all the way back, trying pelting him with snowballs in return for his surprise attack. Laughter filled the air when he was tackled into the snow outside of his house before he was scooped up in Alfred's strong arms and carried inside the house to the warmth of the fire dancing on the logs.

That made me feel all snuggly and warm...which considering the weather here...I'm not sure if that is good or bad!

Oh, who am I kidding :-) It was good!

Snuggly and warm is good! Well, yesterday and today are good days to feel snuggly and warm here because there was a ton less humidity and it dropped like 12 degrees. Perfect tennis weather!! Unfortunately, it's not going to last for long... The 7 day forecast had words like "Humid", "Steamy", "Hot", and "Very Hot" (with fire surrounding it). Gah! At least I live by a very large lake

Yay! Thanks for liking it.

PS - I think this is the first time I've seen the Puck icon in usage? Maybe I wasn't paying attention? Anyway, I smiled because I remember taking like 10 tries to draw that little heart, but it was worth it :) And last night I tried to draw another one in even a thinner brush. *difficulty*

Your forecast sounds...icky!

And I adore my Puck, trust me :-) Thank you again for him! (And I do use him, I do! It's just that often my PoT actors are more appropriate for the subject of the post, so you might not have seen him :-)

I just have to say, that was incredibly sweet. Alfred and Arthur can be absolutely adorable when they're not arguing over something stupid.
