LJ Meme - 9/20

Double-snagged from caraichu and lexxiescott (What now? :P )

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

when did you first join band, pick your favorite instrument and fall in love with music? yes, that is one questions. :)

I joined band in 5th grade (1998). That means I've been playing for 13 years XD
My favorite instrument in 5th grade was the trumpet (which I could play by the end of the school year), but I was put on trombone (and never relieved of it because I was first chair for two years and made the highest band in 7th grade). Then my favorite instrument became the euphonium (learned in 7th grade). Once I was in 11th grade and picked up french horn, I KNEW that was my favorite instrument. And 12th grade, when I got the bass trombone spot in Wind Ensemble, I found my true calling for an instrument.

Favorite instruments: Bass Trombone and French Horn (both to play and to listen to. So POWERFULLY EPIC and can play with a dark, warm, and rich sound).

Fell in love with music - 8th grade. :)

Which kind of people you like and which kind of people you can't stand/tolerate and why?
Aaaand....what do you think about yourself :D
Very personal kind of questions, isn't it? xD
Sorry XD

I welcome all kinds of questions - My life is an open book (but a rather thick volume!).

People I like are caring of others, are passionate about things that mean a lot to them, are mature and professional, have a sense of humor (either for making jokes or simply laughing when they're enjoying themselves), and are both supportive and seek to be supported. I have a lot of respect for people who understand the value of hard work and try their best each and every day.

People I can't stand are people who change their beliefs/opinions to match the group of people they are with (two-faced I suppose). I prefer to know people for who they really are so I know if I'm not wasting my time on them. I also don't tolerate people who lie or tell confidential secrets or seek to purposely hurt others. And I don't like people who are into drugs or excessive alcohol and are throwing away their life.

As for what I think about myself (okay, that one is pretty tough)... First and foremost, I think I'm one of the hardest workers around. A lot of things don't come easy to me (surprising, right? And that includes music and tennis!), but I work hard, practice, and find ways to get involved, because I care so much that I want to be able to do it at a high level. I don't give up, and when I fall down, I pick myself up quickly and use that experience to learn. Even now that I'm fairly accomplished in the things I am passionate about, I'm always seeking to learn and to grow so that I can be a wonderful example for those around me about going for your dreams and not letting anything stop you. I am a very confident individual, but at the same time, I can be a bit on the shy side.

As for other traits... I regard myself high on the maturity level scale - I am rather serious and I give respect and I expect it back. But I can loosen up and have fun too when it's appropriate (like on my Livejournal lol). I am an EXTREME perfectionist because I don't ever want to put up anything/do anything that isn't the best I can do. I have a very analytical and observant mind with creativity tossed in.

Also, I am an enthusiastic storyteller. It is easy for me to talk to a group of friends and get them to feel the emotions I want them to feel and to laugh a lot when it's appropriate. I am able to channel this through writing pretty well too.

Lastly, I view myself as very trustworthy and someone who has so much advice and love to give to others. I live for making others happy ^^

Oh, and I'm an incredibly detailed person. It is very hard for me to explain things without writing/talking a lot. XD

What was it that made you want to be a teacher?

Hmm… I really think it's because I truly enjoyed being in school (yes, even at the elementary levels). I liked learning, discovering, reading, creating, solving problems… And I excelled in all subjects. So, it was a place that I felt like I was successful and that I belonged there. I have always had a passion for making others happy and things easier (and just liked being busy!), which is why I ended up always helping out my teachers. I live to serve and give :)

On the flipside, I was fairly ignorant of my classmates growing up. Looking back, I know I was teased constantly for my ethnicity, my academic success, my tomboy personality, and (later) for being a hardcore band geek who never ate lunch in the cafeteria but spent it in the band office working on either library work or office work. I had maybe a few friends and knew a bunch of band members (that talked about me behind my back I'm sure), but that was about it.

However, all of this that further solidifies my reason for wanting to be a teacher - I want to be there for someone like me who seeks someone who will accept them for who they are and to inspire them the ways that some of my greatest teachers inspired me. I want to be in an environment that I know I can perform my best in and to be surrounded by people that I can help grow and that can also do the same for me.

>> As for specifically becoming a band teacher, that would be 8th grade when my band director asked me to do some of his librarian work and I was all excited because it felt important. And I was quite good at it *organization skills* I've been sorting/copying music ever since then 'cause my life didn't feel complete unless I was doing it! He was one of my biggest role models until he turned into a complete ***** the moment I graduated. >< But thankfully, I have my college marching band director who has truly always been there for me. ^^

finally thought of something...

what is your earliest memory and...what is your all time favorite movie?

My earliest memory… (my memory is poor to start with)…

Well, in elementary school, we had this thing on the playground that was essentially three posts with three metal bars between them at different heights from the ground. And the lowest one was far enough off the ground where you could reach up and use your upper body strength to flip around so you could sit on top of it. I've always been terrified of heights, so I never went higher than that one. Except for one day where I somehow managed to get onto the highest bar because I suddenly felt like it and I was sitting on top of it near the corner post next to the second highest one (and it was like 10 ft. off the ground). Well…. it took the recess monitors the rest of the school day to get me off of that and I was practically bawling and whatnot… Needless to say, they got rid of that strange playground equipment the next year lol (I wonder if it was because of me?). I don't know why they had something that could have broken a bone if you fell off of it. :/

As for a favorite movie of all time… I think it has to be Stardust. First of all, the soundtrack is just phenomenal. I like the fantasy world setting and I think it's very endearing and charming and quite hilarious in certain scenes. Also, Septimus is a boss. A close second would be Love Actually because of the way it incorporates several shorelines and depicts love in many different ways without being cheesy.

Uhh... You should know that I have a strange knack for the Wii Bowling game? As in, I tend to get a score of 12 strikes and one spare or higher. :P

Maybe that my favorite color is blue, shortly followed by silver and black?

... How about that my favorite attire on men is a solid color button down-shirt (with and without a tie) with either black or khaki pants? Formal wear ftw!

When you were a child, what was your dream profession?

It was to be an actress for theatre productions (more specifically musicals when I saw my first one). I'm an expressive person and I've always been drawn to the arts (music, dance, visual art, etc). It never did happen for me though since 1) I have a hard time singing on pitch by myself. 2) My parents never got me into acting classes or dancing classes or anything. 3) I joined band in 5th grade and became very involved in music.

Btw, I love love love your icon!

Something like me, though with cosplay I can live out my acting urges in an amateur way.
But music is art, too, so almost there~

Thx! :3

Where are three places you want to go before you die?

1) London, England - I've always had a fascination with England in general - their accents, their properness, their history... Plus the Tower Bridge is very beautiful (I built a model of it in 8th grade for English class). And going to a Wimbledon tournament would just be <3

2) Italy - Anywhere would be fine there. It has a very romantic atmosphere, beautiful architecture, and wonderful food and drink. I think it would be a very relaxing place to go.

3) Japan - To see Kane in person is my number one goal here. Then to check out temples and other historical sites. And to splurge on anime merchandise.
