Lots of words about watching anime...

Over the last few days, I've been watching random episodes of anime and I've been enjoying myself. Along with successfully making my first animated gifs and making those chibi PoT banners for friends (for those of you who requested one, it is towards the top of my to-do list this week). Also, I'm laying out the terrain map for my PoT/FE fic and coming up with a believable battle strategy. And yes, I'll probably end up making it in Photoshop so it's in color and will look super legit. The things I do…

And now I shall discuss the first new anime I've tried in a year… Uta no Prince-sama Maji Love 1000% (super long title, yeah). It's a bit long because of some lovely tangents, but I included some pictures to make it more interesting.

A. New anime music
The realization that I have not really listened to any new opening/ending songs from anime dawned on me and I needed to remedy that pronto. Part of the reason was that I was tremendously busy for my last year of university and the other part was that none of the recently released anime caught my interest. So, I hopped over to a website, and right on the first page was "Sekai no Hate Made Believe Heart" by none other than JUNICHI SUWABE. That's right - my vocal love/the Alan Rickman of the Japanese world. The anime that it came from was Uta no Prince-sama Maji Love 1000% and that rang a distant bell in my memory.

B. Revisit to myanimelist.net
My first fandom website that sadly got neglected over the summer due to my Prince of Tennis/Fire Emblem story and Livejournal in general. Must get back to it sometime! Anyway, saw that Maji Love 1000% was on my "To Watch" list and so I started to read the information on it. Reverse Harem + Music… sounds like La Corda d'Oro (one of my fags still) but with pop music instead of classical. Checked out the seiyuu list and saw that Kisho Taniyama and Mamoru Miyano were on the list.

Kishou Taniyama is the lead vocalist from the J-rock band GRANRODEO. He is also the voice of Len Tsukimori from La Corda d'Oro, who is one of my all-time favorite characters. Both his rock music and not-so-rock music is so much love for me. In a ranking order of singing voices for me, it would be Suwabe, Kishou, Fukuyama, Hosoya, Mamoru, Ryoutarou (Tezuka)… And speaking of favorite Japanese bands… Abingdon Boys School and GRANRODEO are my favorite two (honorable mentions out to FLOW, SID, and UVERworld).

D. Voices > Plotline + Artwork + Character Interaction/Development
One of the VERY FEW TIMES I've ever tried watching an anime because of voices beating out my beloved interesting and/or complicated plotline, detailed artwork, and strong character interaction/development. Maji Love 1000% is a predictable reverse harem plot with decent artwork. Two episodes in and waiting for the chance to go to wi-fi zone to download the rest. Their school uniforms = VERY UGLY. But it's fairly decent to watch. :D

E. Ren Jinguuji and Masato Hijirikawa
Suwabe's character (Ren) is, in many ways, like Atobe. 1) Rich. 2) Very Rich. 3) Richer than all of the characters. XD But he's charming, fairly flirtatious, and has this smooth way of talking. And he has like this… arrogantly elegant flair.

Don't these blue eyes just look so alluring?

To me, this is an Atobe expression of pondering. With a partially unbuttoned shirt.

Masato (played by Trinity Blood's Dietrich von Lohengrin's seiyuu Kenichi Suzumura) is like… Sanada in appearance. But w/ bold indigo hair and Atobe's teardrop mole. And he's quiet, unrevealing, and stoic… and has a rivalry going on with Ren, who he shares a room with.

One side is Ren's (which has this lavish, expensive feel) and the other is Masa's (more traditional and earthy)

The Sanada-like expression of "Leave me alone in peace before I lose my temper".

Lol - I'm just being silly with the comparisons. It's what I do.

F. Conclusion
It's exciting to be hearing some voices that I've missed hearing, listening to some new songs, and watching some anime after almost a year. Hetalia was the only one I really watched through the year, but each episode is like 5 min. long haha So, what did I end up doing after this? Re-watched one episode each from La Corda, Special A, Kuroshitsuji, Junjou Romantica, Kaichou wa Maid-sama, Kyou Kara Maou, Fullmetal Alchemist, Vampire Knight, and Tales of Symphonia, and enjoyed some nostalgia memories of my favorite series!

… Yes, I WILL finish watching Prince of Tennis in its entirety at some point! And start tackling those that I want to start watching or finish. Too much to do

G. Bonus

I laughed way too loudly when I saw this in that episode of Junjou Romantica. I don't think I had seen National Rikkai OVAs at that point, and if I did, Sanada was not a favorite character at the time. Will this be appearing in PoT/FE? Well, how could I resist? ;)

Attack from multiple sides - Check
Surround the enemy - Will probably be unsuccessful
Higher ground - Check
Rolling big logs down hill - Never thought of that!
Keep something at your back - Check
Attack in waves - Double-check
Leading enemy into funnel shape- The attempt is there...

Whew. Looks like I'm on the right track! Thanks for your contribution :D
You have a Defence Force Academy? Wow - a battle tactics class would be quite interesting! I'm sorry to hear that you never had a chance to go :/ *hugs*

Kenichi Suzumura....if I had seen this name sooner...I'd have watched this show right now. OMG I love this man. Not only is he Lavi in DGM, Kamui in X and Akatsuki in Zombie-Loan, but he's Okita in Gintama. And that alone could win me over. Okita is....basically a Yukimura/Fuji crossover with a bazooka.

Suwabe and Suzumura...that's an epic combination. And the series looks pretty. *is very shallow about her anime if it doesn't look pretty*

Yukimura/Fuji crossover WITH A BAZOOKA?!
That sounds too epic for my brain to process. Something like that could destroy the world! XD

Speaking of Suwabe and Suzumura... in Ep. 1 where they open with their bishie!song, they show that they "duet" a part of the song. Because the boys are "paired up" in the show and they are rivals... Anyhoo, I like Suzumura's singing voice (that I have never heard until this) and it sounded nice w/ Suwabe's.

... Yeah, I like that part of the song lol.

Okita Sougo Pictures, Images and Photos
He is actually a swordsman but he likes his bazooka more. His hobbies are extreme sadism, sleeping and trying to kill his boss. XD When he is mad though o man...he could destroy the world.

Ooooooo yes, this is a must watch now. Sankyuu for telling me about it!

Because the boys are "paired up"
***Yes I've seen (online shop) a few doujinshi of them

I'll take La Corda for the characters and plot over Uta Prince but it has its charms :)
I did make some icons form the character CD single covers:

La Corda WAY over Uta Prince. I will forever be a La Corda lover.
Tomorrow I'm going to some wifi to get the rest of the Uta Prince that is out and catch up. It does seem like it has its charms.

Ooo... the icons look pretty! How did I miss these? And Ren's cover art is practically screaming 'Atobe' at me right now...
Aug. 29th, 2011 03:29 pm (UTC)
Ren Atobe similarities definitely there ;)

Band camp you were away at when I posted it maybe?

I keep DLing but I'm behind.... with a lot of other series too.

Len's seiyuu in GranRodeo I didn't realize *_*

I've been wanting to watch Uta no Prince, especially because of the seiyuu cast (particularly Taniyama Kishou!). I think I'll also enjoy the reverse harem aspect given how much I enjoyed La Corda d'Oro and several other reverse harems. I've watched a bit of the first episode when I was being shown the anime, and gosh, the girl's eyes are so strange. I kept seeing people say her eyes looked soulless. The guys seem to have it better regarding their eyes.

Haha, the bonus pic from Junjou Romantica is hilarious.

OMG YOU LIKE TANIYAMA KISHOU?!?!?!?! How did I not know this?! *is done spazzing*
I've had his music playing all day. I can't believe I've gone so long without listening to some of his stuff!

La Corda d'Oro is so much love. The randomly picked episode from that series from the last few days just happened to be the one where they're at that camp prior to the 2nd selection and Len and Kaho play the Ave Maria duet together. So. good. <3

Yeeeah... her eyes are definitely strange (makes you wonder if it will play a role in the anime later? Some flashbacks seem to point in that direction).

The boys are not the hottest bishies I've seen, but there is something kind of alluring about Ren for me. He joins the very very small list of boys with long hair that I find attractive.

Isn't it? XD I was trying to pick one of the Kamijou/Nowaki episodes, so I guessed Ep. 6. Well, it turned out to be an episode I hardly remembered, but then that happened and I lost it. So much laughter ensued in that one screenshot. Glad you enjoyed it!

I doooooo. All because of La Corda, and then I watched two other series he was in around that time (Busou Renkin and Overdrive). I love his voice and his songs! I was also playing a game he was in, though that character was quite hotheaded (so different from the roles I'm used to from him). I believe he sings the opening! :D

I love the camp episodes, and the Ave Maria scene was particularly poignant. <3

Really? You think there might be some reason why her eyes are like that? XD; I thought it was just a stylistic thing! Hm~. UtaPuri is on my to-watch list. I hope I get to it sometime. :3

Hehe, it's such a hilarious line with Tenipuri background.
Aug. 29th, 2011 01:56 pm (UTC)
La Corda is some wonderful awesomeness! I have never heard of Busou Renkin or Overdrive... how were they? The only shows I've watched w/ Kishou's voice in it were Special A, Pandora Hearts, Junjou Romantica, and Chrome Shelled Regios. Ooo... I will have to see if I can check out that opening soon.

The camp episodes were great :) I lol at the part where Tsukimori has to heat up the food (Failure at its best) or when he and Tsuchiura demand to change rooms. Hooray for rivals!

I dunno, maybe? Haha - they just stick out a bit too much to me to be a stylistic choice (cause the boys' eyes look normal to me). Maybe I'm just crazy? My to-watch list is large I really need to fix some of that.

If I watch another random Junjou episode and see something like "Aggressive like fire", I would just die laughing. XD
Aug. 29th, 2011 04:57 pm (UTC)
Busou Renkin and Overdrive are both shounen series (26 episodes each). Busou Renkin is a fighting series much like many shounen while Overdrive is a sports series about bicycling. It starts slow but gets interesting. I enjoyed both a lot. :)

Haha, I enjoyed Hihara's awkwardness from the camp episodes in addition to Tsukimori's fail at preparing food. Lots of great scenes during that part of the series!

Pft, aggressive like fire. I might bend over from laughter. XD
Sep. 1st, 2011 11:58 pm (UTC)
There is a sports series about bicycling? Amazing! I feel like that is something I would be geeked about XD

Hihara is sooooo awkward at times, but in an adorable way lol. It always seems that camps are just some of the best times in any series!

Anyhoo, about the yellow eyes.... Nine episodes in and her eyes are "normal" still. My mistake about my random suspicion. I perhaps thought that it would be something magical like La Corda where she can't read music or something and then gains the power to compose. Oh well, I tried :D

You know I'm going to be on the lookout for Sanada phrases to pop up in what I'm watching now... It is a must!
Aug. 29th, 2011 05:11 am (UTC)
Okay, fine, I'm downloading it now :-)

LOL! I love getting recommendations...but I need to sit down and start watching stuff!
