Resume and the Start of a Job Search

Guess what was finally completed successfully today?

Joushou Rikkaidai.

Things accomplished today:

- Revision of Resume to include sub. teaching experience
- Getting confirmation from a band director that I have been subbing for to use him as a job reference.
- Quick job search: Positions open that I want to look into include...
1) Middle School Band Director/High School Marching Band Assistant (Randolph Townships School, New Jersey)
2) Instrumental Music Teacher (6th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, Jazz Ensemble, Pep Band Assistant Director) (Fergus Falls Public Schools, Minnesota)
3) Middle School Band Director (5th-8th grade) (Manteno Community Unit School District 5, Illinois)
4) High School Band Director (Ridgefield Public Schools, Connecticut)

I went through 200+ job listings and went with the ones I can teach (no vocal music) and want to teach (no elementary music or anything with suer strong jazz bands or a percussion ensemble... not qualified). Y NO MICHIGAN? Or Wisconsin? Or Pennsylvania? At least Illinois was on there (that's my second choice of state).

Later Tonight/Tomorrow:
- Post a new chapter of PoT/FE
- Look into these jobs and start applying
- Search for secretary/office work jobs
- Write more PoT/FE (finish out Ch. 10, get somewhere with the next scene in Ch. 5)

And I updated my "Classes I have Subbed For" list just because I like to see what I end up more in...

Yay! Way to be productive! *hugs you*
Apr. 11th, 2012 01:19 am (UTC)
holy crap you've done a lot of subbing. *is awed.
Apr. 12th, 2012 12:04 pm (UTC)
I was surprised 'cause the last time I updated the list was October and there was only 29 classes I think. (I did not work hardly any of December 'cause of winter break and started again in mid-January... then Spring Break happened the first week of April, but the week before that there wasn't really anything since teachers were wrapping up before break). I want to be able to work every day!

*continues searching for that job*

<3 Thanks for being awed! That made me happy to read :)

Wristbands look great!!! <3

And good luck job searching! x.x Why is it so hard...?
Apr. 12th, 2012 12:09 pm (UTC)
Thank you dear! <3 And I'll be putting up that picture of the patches you sent me today! (I can't believe I didn't get around to it).

For me, it's one of the first jobs to go when schools starting cutting back. And with the poor economy (which seems to be a major problem for most countries anyways), people hang onto their jobs longer. And schools want to hire "experts" aka people with experience first if they're going to invest their money in them... which throws recent college grads like me lower on the ladder. :/

Also, I don't know if it's like this for you?, but a lot of schools that I've applied for use this AppliTrack system where you fill out like 20 pages worth of application and then attach your resume, letters of rec, and transcript, and then it gets sent in online. I honestly think that if I was the employer, I'd die reading all of that information (they even ask you interview like questions on it). x.x

Just curious, but how hard is it to get the job that you want for next year?
Apr. 12th, 2012 08:24 pm (UTC)
It's a damn shame that schools are cutting back on music programs. DDDD: I have no idea what I would have done with I wasn't in choir and orchestra and stuff while in grade school, but probably nothing remotely productive. :X

It's more a matter of timing for me. There are jobs out there, but the Japanese hiring cycle begins in April, not July when I'll be finishing up my current contract. As long as there are still jobs up on the internet to search through, I think I can find something that I can do... But, this is all a very new thing for me, since I've always had the comfort of working for something bigger (i.e. I worked for my college while studying there and now I work for JET, so it's like a safety net).

Those wristbands scream WE WILL NOT LOSE. So yea, very Joushou Rikkaidai.

Hopefully something will come to light soon and you get a job. So you can come see me Ganbatte!!

I work all day tomorrow so I won't get to read your chapter until I get home. *borrows table from you so I may flip it*
Apr. 12th, 2012 12:11 pm (UTC)
Omg... I will totally think that from now on. WE WILL NOTE LOSE. That is the law. *imperious head nod*

Azi, dear, I would love love LOVE to come visit you one day. Or to see you at Anime Expo 2014 ('cause my financial status for 2013 is so uncertain still). But a trip to your state would be nice too! We'll make it work. Thank you <3

*watches table get flipped* *gives you a 10*

They did! I'm proud of them!

Nice wristbands! I like how you show them off with fists clenched. Joushou Rikkaidai!

Fourth grade teachers taking a lot of time off? lol For some reason that didn't surprise me. Fourth grade was rambunctious. ;D
Apr. 12th, 2012 12:15 pm (UTC)
I wanted to do the Rikkai salute, but the camera angle was posed so I couldn't do it well. When I get into full school uniform, then I shall do that.

Thank you!

Haha, I guess so. Actually, it's whatever appears on the website when I happen to be on, and luckily it's been 4th grade and up. I really don't like anything lower 'cause some of them are so used to a particular structure that the fact that you don't know every little detail of it completely throws them off. Or I get the kids at a certain school district that stare at me like "Umm... what are you???" I'm Asian, which also means I'm a person x.x

I prefer high school. You get a planning hour and most of them are fairly self-sufficient. And I've been at this high school enough that they know what they can get away with (which is really nothing) and so I can watch and write in peace.

I've been lucky with the 4th graders I've had. They're very nice and smart <3 And this one 2nd grade class was just fantastic. Rambunctious here is like 3rd grade or 6th and 7th.

Nice wristbands!

Good luck on the job search! Hopefully all the teaching subs will become extremely useful :>
Apr. 12th, 2012 12:17 pm (UTC)
Thank you much! <3

I hope that it does too! At least I can finally say I have a lot of experience with effective classroom management and working with a large variety of students.
Apr. 13th, 2012 04:20 pm (UTC)
I hope you!ll find school and post you'll like! <3
Wow so many subbed classes! That must be great experience! xD

Going to read POT/FE bwahahah :D
Apr. 14th, 2012 03:40 pm (UTC)
And the moment I get my job, all you all will know and it will be amazing.

Ahhhh PoT/FE. Where are you at in the story?
Apr. 14th, 2012 12:12 am (UTC)
They turned out awesome!

What a large list of different grades and subjects you subbed in! :D Are you expected to teach a lot for the separate subjects in high school?
Apr. 14th, 2012 03:49 pm (UTC)
\o/ They did!

Definitely some variety there! I'm usually in the high school I went to school and most teachers there give lesson plans that gives students a worksheet or two to work on or they can work on their projects or study by themselves.

It's not like elementary at all where you have to give the students active and constant attention and teach to keep behavior problems from coming up. Unless the high school teacher specifically requested you, they don't expect anyone who can teach their subject so it's more like babysitting.

Sanada, Sanada, Sanadaaaaaa!! <3

How is now your job research? ;__; You'll be able to find something in your state?
